new beginnings

Hey there and welcome!

To those of you who stumbled over from REMIXED TV, let me explain the format and name change...

I put together REMIXED TV as my thesis project and my senior exhibition at KCAI... The point was to take a technology which was about to become obsolete and save it. With the digital switchover, approved by Congress which went into effect this past June, the ability to broadcast using analog technology became a lot more obtainable as an artist... Loopholes are fantastic things and when I need one, I can usually find one... However, it seems as if the government handed me one on a silver platter as people no longer need a license to broadcast over traditional airwaves; since major broadcasters are no longer using analog technology.

REMIXED TV served my purpose well; it allowed me to create a virtual gallery which could be broadcast across a city... I created it with the intention of acting as a starter gallery knowing that one day I would leave it behind for something more refined. Don't get me wrong, I loved the lack of formality, using pseudonyms for my artists' protection and using grungy imagery to push the underground element of the project... However, because the first broadcast was happening shortly before the switchover, it was crucial the artists involved were protected and I understood that some artists did not want to be involved due to the risk... As we live in a post-switchover world now, I'm more open to the idea of allowing an artist to display their work with their real name attached to the project as now the level of risk is none...

After almost a year, it seems appropriate to make the switchover to the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Gallery... I have high hopes and big plans for this opportunity for artists... For one thing, I would like to be able to set up viewing stations as several galleries in the kansas city area and broadcast every first friday... Is it important that these viewing stations exist? Not really since it is a broadcast and therefor will be visible by anyone in the broadcast area so long as whoever is viewing it is using an antenna and has their tv set to analog... Do I think the viewing stations would be a fun alternative for video artists in Kansas City? Absolutely! So I hope you, the viewers of this blog and the REMIXED TV blog are appeased with my explanation of the changes that are about to come; they are small changes but they will hopefully have a huge impact on Kansas City.

I'll be updating my call for submissions after the BFA show at The H & R Block Space
